AICE Media Studies Story Board Blog

My music video as a whole is very visual and requires little to no higher level thinking to understand fully. I made sure if this by carefully selecting what and what not to put into each scene.  Scene 1: The title card with the words “Rags to Riches Filmed and directed by Thomas smith.” This title card has a moving back ground with ashes from a fire which just adds to the aesthetic of the music video. Scene 2: The first of three zoomed in shots on the materialistic items on my body such as the chains and earrings in this shot. Scene 3: The second of three zoomed in shots, but this time showcasing my watch and ring. The watch and ring are both gold adding to the feeling of luxury. Scene 4: The third and final of these array of zoomed shots, this time, showing my shoes (Nike vapor max plus ice white). Scene 5: A fully body shot showing the complete ensemble from the last three scenes. This is supposed to show the after and everything leading up to the final scene...

AICE Media Studies Music Video: Intro Blog

Hello, my name is Thomas Smith and you may recognize me from either my talk show with co-host, Alyssa Lee, or more recently, my commercial about the iPhone XR.

Name:  Thomas Smith     Creative Critical R eflection   1. How does your product  use or challenge conventions AND  how does it represent social groups or issues?          My project uses the conventions of long, panning shots that give the viewer a good sense of the item to  its  ad vantage by me using three, 8-10 second shots of the  iPhone and making the transitions  seamless  by  the fade transition. I had however had to challenge a few conventions  such  as the convention to start and end the commercial  with the apple logo  due  to my limited time frame. Fortunately, I felt that the three shots of the  phone  and the iconic facetime call  compensated  for the  absence  of the logo due to the logo being on the back of the phone.  As  far  as social groups I felt that I had good representation considering that m an y  ...

AICE Media Studies: My Commercial

This was my final product for the project, and it was very time-consuming. There was one major mistake that I made in the filming and editing process. This was the mistake of over filming because over filmed, I had entirely too many shots a had to choose from to make my scenes. https://youtu.be/FlBCRxHMK4s

Editing Blog: Just Right

Image
After two weekends of filming, it was time to start the editing process. Because I shot everything on my iPhone, I figured that iMovie would be the best program to edit on. It recently received an update with many new features transported from the desktop version. I used my phone to edit all of the scenes because it would be easier to transfer video files and voice recordings for the b-roll.       To start off, I began editing the first scene (the title introduction scene). I used the text feature in iMovie to add the period of the phone and the word phone after the phone itself to creates the illusion that the iPhone was apart of the title. I then added a voiceover to the scene and say, "Welcome to iPhone XR." I will use a swipe transition to move to the next scene where I will list the specifics of the iPhone from a high angle shot of the phone.      Then after the specifics are listed, my first scene with actors will be shown th...

Filming Blog: iPhone XR

On Saturday, October the 24th I started filming. I woke up at the crack of dawn in order to get the rising sunlight for my first shot and to gain as much time to film from my schedule. I knew that this weekend was going to be beyond busy for me considering that my birthday was on that Monday, the 26. With this in mind, I made sure to make every minute of my weekend a productive one.
