Genre Decision
For my opening sequence, I decide to choose the thriller genre to make a movie. I went with this choice because of my love for the thriller genre and all it entails. From the scares to comedic moments, the thriller genre just seemed perfect for the story I wanted to tell. It was extremely hard and easy to get to this point due to a multitude of reasons. To make a list of everything easy about it though, would prove a challenge. The only thing I would've considered truly 'easy' about making this decision was that I had to make it on my own. Because I chose not to work with anyone on this opening assignment, I wasn't subjected to anyone else's opinions other than my own. This meant that through the pre-planning stage of this project, I was the sole vote in all decisions. Although this opened my decision to be extremely biased as I had no one to disagree with and provide a counter from my choice, I believe that I strayed away from making a bias decision. I took a look at each and every genre and closely examined the pros and cons of each. By doing this I came to realize that although it would be easier to film an opening of a genre such as comedy, it would be harder to leave the audience wanting more. Speaking of comedy, that along with the action and horror genre were two genres I struggled with when deciding which genres would be in my top 3. This list of 3 genres consisted of three genres that would be the best from every standpoint. When creating this top 3 I chose my personal favorite 5 genres, which were Thriller, Action, Horror, Comedy, and Drama. From there, I considered which three of the five would be the easiest to film, edit, etc. With that in mind, I narrowed my five to my top 3 of Thriller, Horror, and Comedy. An action opening would've been extremely complicated to film and edit and Drama wouldn't have gained the attention of the viewer in time. The only con to the Thiller genre, which I ended up choosing out of the top 3 because it's a mix of both horror and comedy is that it's not the easiest to film if done properly. Thrillers are known for their complex shots, and plots, which makes it very easy to fall short of perfection.
