Final Task Intro Blog

Hello, my name is Thomas Smith and I am a 10th grade student at Fort Lauderdale High School. This is information you might recognize from my previous projects such as my Music Video or my Commercial. Today I will start on my introduction to a new form of media I have yet to complete: an opening to a short film. Similarly to most of my other projects, I will be completing this opening on my own, without the help of any classmates. I chose to go this route mainly for two reasons: 1.) I didn’t want my grade to become dependent upon anyone else but my self. 2.) I didn’t want to get stuck completing most of the assignment by myself when I had teammates at my disposal. I am naturally an independent person and would’ve tried to take the leading position in the group which would’ve resulted in me completing an unfair margin of work compared to my teammates. The first project that my class completed that involved creating blogs for Cambridge was the first and only project I completed with a teammate. In the project, we were tasked with creating a talk show segment explaining things we had learned in class. My teammate and I started the project at different times; I started the day before it was due and she started the day it was due. The filming process was rigorous due to the fact that we didn’t meet in person to film but instead joined each other on a zoom call and recorded the call, which took over an hour to film. We finished filming at 9:36 p.m., which meant that we had less than a hour and a half to edit. After using 20 minutes to find a video editor suitable for both of us to work on together, it was decided that I would complete all of the editing due to my partner having technical difficulties. So I completed all of the editing myself, which was basically most of the work because filming, although long, was relatively easy. I firmly believe that this choice to work alone will not affect the quality of my work, although there is a chance it could affect how long it will take me to complete the project fully. Short films in general are meticulous works of art due to the fact that you have a shorter amount of time to convey a theme or feeling. Luckily I do have some sort of experience with conveying a theme in a shorten amount of time with words through my my recent essays I’ve completed in my AICE English class. My last few essays have had a word limit of 400 words, which meant that I had to get to the point extremely quick and extract all “fluff.” Now the only real challenge is converting that writing into film and using film techniques to convey my desired feeling and theme. Hopefully, this project turns out well, and I’ll make sure to keep you updated every part of journey.
